(8) 19th century Campaign Secretaire Chest (circa 1880)

Width: 760 cm, Height: 950 cm, Depth: 38 cm

(13) 4-drawer mahogany kneehole desk c.1850

Overall height: 845 mm; Height to writing surface: 770 mm
Width: 1065 mm
Depth: 690 mm

Elegant 19th century (circa 1850) mahogany kneehole desk, of four drawers and writing slope. Very similar to the one pictured in 'Pictorial Dictionary of British 19th Century Furniture Design' p342, 2003 ed., by W. Smee and Sons.

This desk has an attractive colour and patina and original faux leather on cross-banded top. The desk sits on ring-turned legs with alternate rings ebonised, and also features some ebony edge banding. Piero has added cup castors to raise the level of the desk, as well as reinstating the missing ratched slope mechanism. All original locks with new key supplied. Cleaned, touched up and waxed.

(22) Mahogany Chippendale chest c1760

Width: 1230mm, Height: 1100mm, Depth: 560mm

Mid-18th century Cuban mahogany Chippendale chest circa 1760. Suggesting an earlier period with lipped drawers and front to back oak drawer bases, this piece retains its original hardware and functioning locks. Doric capped quarter columns add some class. Ogee bracket feet to the front (19th century replacement of right bracket and back panelling) and flat brackets to the rear, probably an economy measure given the high cost of mahogany.

As with most chests, the usual suspects needed arresting such as drawer linings and runners and minor splits, now restored. Pleasing colour and wax finish.
